Meet the Music News Blitz team part three: Karaoke choices, fave albums and guilty pleasures

Thanks to parts one and two of our Meet the Music News Blitz content team series, we feel like we know them quite well now - but who do they turn to with a microphone in hand?

In the third and final part, we discover their karaoke choices, favourite albums, get under the covers, and find out their guilty pleasures, as well as assembling some random party guests…

What’s your choice of song when you step up on the karaoke 🎤?

HC - As experienced by Matthew multiple times, Cigarettes and Alcohol by Oasis is the go to. I end up being possessed by the spirits of Liam Gallagher in the height of Oasis mania.

CG - Unfortunately for the audience I love to sing all 9 minutes and 50 seconds of Bat Out of Hell by Meat Loaf, belter.

MD - Despite my better judgement, an attempt on The Power of Love tends to be made, however a go at ‘I want it that way’ can’t be missed.

KR - When I can be coerced into pure embarrassment, my go to is always ‘Bassline Junkie’ by the man himself Dizzee. Absolutely no further explanation, just ignites something in me.

SW - If my inner Elvis is in the building, it’s Suspicious Minds by the King. If he has left the building, then it’s 500 miles by The Proclaimers - always gets a good stomp going in the crowd.

NP - This answer changes weekly, I kid you not. At the moment though, it’s ‘Fur Elise’ by Faouzia. I can only dream of nailing those runs she did in the live version.

What’s your favourite album and why?

HC - For me it’s a toss-up between “The freewheelin’ Bob Dylan” proving that songs can be more than just music. But to keep Simon happy I’ll go with “Rubber Soul” by the Beatles, an album that has no skips and has stood the test of time.

CG - Sadly a battle of the basics for me as I’d have to say it’s between The Stone Roses by - guess who - and the phenomenal Definitely Maybe by Oasis. Big fan of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘good kid, m.A.A.d city’ too.

MD - Hypersonic Missiles, absolutely no misses & every song slaps.

KR - Very basic of me but I do have to say You'll be Alright Kid (Chpt 1) by Alex Warren. He is singlehandedly holding my Spotify mixes right now.

SW - I went to uni in the 1990s, so Definitely Maybe is right up there - but I think Black Sunday by Cypress Hill just edges it. When the shit goes down, you better be ready.

NP - I have three I can never really choose from. There’s ‘Sweetener’ by Ariana Grande, ‘2014 Forest Hills Drive’ by J. Cole and ‘Lemonade’ by Beyonce. Personally I think every album of theirs is a no skip album, but those three, please never make me choose.

Who is your guilty pleasure? Which band or singer are you a bit embarrassed to say you like?

HC - Chappell Roan, don’t think I have to say much more.

CG - Chappell Roan, she’s tops.

MD - Take That, I'm not a 40-year-old mum.

KR - Becky Hill. Don't know what enthrals me so much but every song just gets me moving.

SW - I do love a bit of Michael Buble - and not just for Christmas. What a set of pipes that man has.

NP - Anything from old Barbie movies, and the old Lion Kind movies. It’s a little embarrassing how often I listen to those songs.

Name a cover song that’s actually better than the original…

HC - “Heart of glass” by Miley Cyrus - the pipes on that woman, my god.

CG - My rendition of Bat Out of Hell.

MD - ‘Believe’ by DMA’s is unreal.

KR - ‘Dancing on my Own’ by Callum Scott has to be it for me. His voice with those lyrics… just chills.

SW - ‘Wherever I lay my hat’ by Paul Young. Totally different vibe and energy to the original, which absolutely stinks the place out.

NP - ‘You Raise Me Up’ by Westlife or ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ by Ariana Grande (live from Manchester). Anything Westlife or Ariana touch turns to gold, really.

Which five artists, dead or alive, would you invite round for dinner and drinks if you could?

HC - Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Liam Gallagher, Stevie Nicks, and Ray Charles. I’d just want to sit back and witness what conversation would go down.

CG - Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Grian Chatten, Morrissey and Kanye West - I’d like to see who threw the first punch and how long it would take.

MD - Huey Lewis, Sam Fender, Freddy Mercury, Whitney Houston & Michael Buble - this took too long for me to answer and I just like these people, no further explanation.

KR - Ozzy Ozbourne, Robbie Williams, Freddy Mercury, Noah Kahan, James Brown - extremely random combination but it would certainly be entertaining.

SW - Otis Redding, Frank Sinatra, Dave Grohl, Kylie Minogue and Plan B - have heard they all like lasagne and an evening on the red wine.

NP - Michael Jackson, Freddy Mercury, Miley Cyrus, Whitney Houston and Ariana Grande - I’m aware of how odd this combination is, but I have my reasons.
