Meet the Music News Blitz team part two: Fave songs, memories and ‘don’t-get’ artists
In part one of our Meet the Music News Blitz content team, we grilled them on their best and worst gigs, and asked which Festivals are on their bucket lists.
Here, part two delves into their favourite song in recent times, songs that evoke cherished memories - and revered artists they ‘just don’t get’.
Which song have you listened to the most over the last 12 months?
HC - It’ll come as no shock to the team but it’s “don’t think twice, it’s alright” by the almighty Bob Dylan.
CG - Bye Bye Bad Man by The Stone Roses, an absolutely phenomenal tune from a great album.
MD - A Foggy Day by Michael Buble, one of the best “walk to work” songs about but in second is The Power of Love by Huey Lewis and the News, the greatest song of all time.
KR - Very simply, ‘Ain't no love in Oklahoma’ by Luke Combs. I shall be taking no further questions at this time.
SW - Well it has been quite a bumpy year from both a personal and professional level - and Miley Cyrus’ The Climb has been pretty inspirational when at a low ebb.
NP - I can’t get ‘Form of You’ by Kehlani featuring DESTIN CONDRAD & CHILDOFINES out of my head. The poem, the vocals, the lyrics…perfection.
But don’t get me started on the bassline. Any song where I can actually hear the bass guitar is an instant favourite.

Which song reminds you of a family member and why?
HC - Pocketful of sunshine, by Natasha Bedingfield. It reminds me of my sister, it was just one of the songs we couldn’t stop singing on holiday one time. Just a simple but good memory.
CG - So Long, Marianne by Leonard Cohen always reminds me of my Grandad who is a huge fan of Cohen and will always play the song after a few drinks.
MD - ‘Cuddly Toy’ by Roachford always reminds me of home - the opening scene to Alan Partridge ‘Alpha Papa’ is one we recreate every time it comes on.
KR - ‘Ashes’ by Celine Dione has always been a tear jerker for me. Just takes me back to simpler times, especially those with my Great Aunt in her garden.
SW - This is a tough one - but it’s Sound & Vision by Bowie. My oldest brother John passed away at the age of 48 a few years ago - and this was playing when we walked into the crematorium (his choice). Gets me every time when it comes on.
NP - Yeah this one’s a tough one. Maybe ‘Hey Brother’ by Avicii because it’s one of those songs I don’t think my dad will ever get tired of.
Which revered singer or band do you just not get - and why?
HC - I have never understood the love for Drake. His songs are constantly played on the radio but he is nothing special and I have never got the hype.
CG - Ever since my job played ‘If I Could Turn Back Time’ by Cher on loop I have been immensely turned away from the woman’s music and cannot stand her voice.
MD - Declan McKenna, love the message but his voice is categorically the worst thing ever.
KR - Going to definitely divide a few opinions here but I have to say Ed Sheeran. Don't know what it is specifically, just never been my cup of tea.
SW - Strong stuff from Ransome above ⬆️ - and I’m going against the grain too with Bob Dylan.
I just don’t get it - the man can’t sing and is no match for Stevie Wonder on the mouth organ either. Baffled by the reverence around him.
NP - I’m probably going to get crucified for this, but Taylor Swift. I’ve tried - believe me, I really have - to get the vibe but it just hasn’t happened and I don’t think I ever will.
She’s a little too bland for my liking. But before the Swifties kill me, I have nothing but respect for what she’s done with her career. And just like Harvey, I also don’t get the Drake hype.
